I used to be anti-affirmations for many years because I thought they were pseudoscience and a waste of time. However, I am a big convert now because I noticed the difference they make not only in my life but in my clients’ lives too.

For example, whenever I am feeling down and unmotivated, I listen to Jhene Aikoโ€™s song โ€˜W.A.Y.Sโ€™ which repeats the words โ€˜you gotta keep goingโ€™ over and over again in the chorus. 

Just the repetition of the words alone has helped me get up out of a slump and achieve great things. In fact, it was my go-to revision song for my A Levels and university assignments so I am a testament to the fact that it works.

Simply put, affirmations help reprogramme your mind by rewiring your negative thought patterns into positive ones which also boosts your self-esteem and confidence in the process.

Affirmations also help you build mental resilience and reduces your stress levels which enables your to handle challenges with confidence and focus.

How to get the most out of these summer affirmations

Affirmations are a really great first step towards making mindset shifts in your life because they reprogramme your subconscious mind BUT only if you use them correctly by embedding repetition and emotion into your routine.

  1. Identify a frequent negative thought you have about yourself
  2. Pick a positive affirmation from the list that resonates with you
  3. Picture the ideal version of yourself who possesses the positive trait that counters that negative thought
  4. Focus on how it feels to be them, the kind of thoughts they have, and how they treat themselves
  5. Fully immerse yourself in the feeling of being that ideal self for a few seconds
  6. Every morning, stand in front of a mirror and recite your affirmations out loud making a conscious decision to tap into the feelings of being the ideal version of yourself
